It's good that Cycling Stories acknowledges that Serie A was awash with dope in the 80's and 90's We all should know what Dr Ferrari said about the Spain National football team in the early to mid 2000's. Cyclists are an easy target when talking about doping but loads of other sports must do it. I know a famous former SPL (Scotland) footballer who said in his 15 year SPL carear he was tested no more than 2-3 times a year. I'm not accusing him of taking PED's but a couple of tests a year is a joke

The 1990's was infected with EPO. Seriously doubt he was clean. Like Greg LeMond once said, it doesn't matter in how good of a shape a rider is, he'll never beat other riders that are on EPO

I understand some people's suggestion that it was suspicious for a big guy like Indurain to be so good in the mountains, but I disagree. I remember that era well and the big change came after that. Indurain was a good climber, but it was far from his forte. His tactic was to gain as much time as possible in the time trail and try to defend it in the mountains as best he could. What came after that was unbelivable to me as a keen cycling fan. Armstrong, Froome and a couple of the current lads are superhuman compared to Indurain. They win the time trials, they dominate in the mountains, they can do it all, to a much greater extent that Indurain. I realise he also had a few epic performances in the mountains over the years, but they were the exception. Two more points: the idea that the fact he came 3rd in the Giro somehow proves or strongly suggests doping is prettty weak. Also, if salbutemol is allowed but frowned upon, a positive result is not doping.

The usage of "anodyne" in this video confirms to me that Cycling Highlights is written by the same person and that person is not the narrator. Get well bubba hope your 4x boosters were worth it.

Kind of bullshit to link the best football players in the world back then to doping as well. My grandpa was a cycling journalist in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, but doping was used even by giants like Coppi, Merckx, and Anquetil.

I can't imagine that he didn't dope. The Banesto team was a high speed train, setting paces, at the time, that were crazy. But it was an era where many doped. That said, Indurain was a hell of a champion. The best time trialist I ever saw. He won 2 Giro d'italia, and only 4 stages, all 4 being the time trials.

They asked Lance Armstrong if he would dope again, he said "yes". Sadly doping is in all sports now, M. Marquez in MotoGP ... so much doping that he lost bone density and is the reason why Marquez took years to recover from his injuries where most riders took just a couple of months. Doping does all kinds of nasty things to bone density making the bones very fragile and will not heal properly. If you want to investigate doping, strongly suggest you poke around in MotoGP but don't be surprised if you get met with threats.

To whomever writes these stories about bicycle racing and "dopers". You know absolutely nothing about the subject. Go to Vail Colorado and tell Lance what you say about their racing but be sure and bring a body guard.

EPO? Where did you get this info? If you speak to LeMond he will tell you the first real signs of the rocket fuel EPO didn't occur until 1991. He said riders who were not even in the top 20 were now competing for podiums. Although it was stated to be around in the late '80s, it seems it didn't make a full impact until the '90s. That's when the peloton changed and went faster with no slower days or recover days during the TDF or grand tours. Everything else pales in comparison to EPO.
